Simple Sri Lankan Lamb Curry by ape rasa

This Sri Lankan style gravy lamb curry very popular in Sri Lanka. You can make it for a mild or hot depend how much chilli you used for this recipe. You have to cooked slow to tenderise and absorb all the spices.

This Sri Lankan style gravy lamb curry very popular in Sri Lanka. You can make it for a mild or hot depend how much chilli you used for this recipe. You have to cooked slow to tenderise and absorb all the spices.


What Are The Ingredients:

  • 1 kg Diced Lamb
  • 2 Onions
  • 1 tps Black Pepper
  • 1/2 inch Ginger
  • Cinnamon sticks 
  • Curry leaves
  • 3-4 Garlic
  • 1 Tomato
  •  3-4 Cloves
  • 1 pcs Goraka 
  • 1 Tamarind  
  • 2 tps of Curry powder
  • Table salt
  • 2 tps Chilli powder
  • 1 tps Turmeric powder
  • Olive oil


What to do after you have those ingredients:

  • Cut the 2 onions into small pcs.
  • Cut the 1 tomato into slices 
  • Put garlic and ginger in a Mortar and Pestle and smash them 
  • Add the cinnamon sticks, cloves, curry leaves, to the Mortar and  continue smashing 
  • Add some cardamom seeds in it as well so it would give in more flavor and smash
  • For the diced lamb, add some curry powder, chilli powder, turmeric powder, table salt and ground black powder, mix the lamb using your hands
  • Keep the seasoned lamb for about 1 hour 
  • Heat up a frying pan and pour over some olive oil so it would be able to have some time to heat up
  • After that, add the paste that you smashed using the Mortar and Pestle in the frying pan and stir it until the color is golden- brown
  • After you see the color has changed, add the diced onions and stir
  • Add some table salt to give it a taste
  • Add the tomato slices and add the tamarind and the goraka in the frying pan and stir it up
  • After that, you put in the seasoned lamb in the frying pan and give it a big stir until the lamb changes brown and nice
  • Add some water to the frying pan and leave for 20 minutes
  • Once you can see the lamb is coming to a boil so then you add 1 tsp of curry powder and leave for 2 minutes
